The top job search websites — really?

1

Sure, there are some pretty good websites out there that help find a job. But do they really do the job? Sites like HotJobs and Monster almost always seem filled with spam about working from home. The Ladders does little more than aggregate stuff from a bunch of other sites–at least its tidy. Indeed does the same. Simply Hired isn’t terrible, but it still doesn’t get all the way there.

What Simply Hired, Indeed and The Ladders try to do is pull in the major job sites because Career Builder, HotJobs and Monster rarely have the same jobs posted. So you end up looking all over for a job. What I would do is build a little RSS feed for myself so that the searches I do get pulled into one place. One great way to do this is through Yahoo Pipes. It takes a few minutes to understand, but once you do you can create your own job hunting service.I have a little rudimentary one that is in the right hand column here for anyone looking for marketing jobs.

Here is a nice how to video on Yahoo Pipes
